Success through an Adventure Mindset
Erik Vermeulen is a Behavioural Strategist by day, but when he’s not consulting, he is an adventurer and explorer. He has summited some of the world’s highest mountains, and taken his mountain bike to places like Tibet and to Everest base camp. In 2017 he was part of the team that set a new South African record for summiting the 9 Peaks – the highest point in each of the 9 Provinces. As an adventure sport athlete, he has been asked to lead national teams in the Raid Gauloises, the world’s premier Expedition Race.
In this presentation, Erik explores the basic principles of success – not just while adventuring or attempting tough physical challenges, but also in everyone’s day-to-day life. He’ll show you how goalsetting can not only be de-motivational but can kill you. He suggests that the process of peak performance rather than the achievements themselves unlock the secrets to success – a concept his adventure travel business “Xplore” has used very successfully to get more people on summits than the average on many of the 7 Summits expeditions. Creating this optimal mindset has also allowed climbers to turn themselves back from a summit bid for a variety of reasons without regrets.
Using amazing imagery from some of his adventures, the audience will come to grips with The Performance Wheel, The Power of Process, all while reliving some of Erik’s experiences – not just as an adventurer, but also as Mind- and Performance coach to top athletes and sports teams in South Africa.
In a world where personal performance is highly prized, but where few great accomplishments are realized by individuals, aspects such as teamness, accountability, intrinsic motivation and balance become keys to success – irrespective of how that success is measured.
This presentation is a must-have for any organization looking to create a high performance culture.
